Confucious

Confucianism is often described as a system of morality without religion, so it is a good place to look for guidance on issues like ethics, morality and how to behave if guidance should be what you are looking for, as it looks for answers (which you are of course free to disregard) without the pretense that the rules are other than the product of human intelligence, and do not purport to have been beamed down to sacred rocks or prophets. Auntie's general guide to ethical behaviour is the Golden Rule. Attributed to most major religions, and often to Mrs Doasyouwouldbedoneby in Charles Kingsley's The Water Babies, the Golden Rule was first formulated by Confucius, in his Analects, and was 'What you do not wish done to yourself, do not do to others.' That's good enough for auntie.
