"The key to happiness is accepting one unpleasant reality every day."
-Bertrand Russell

"Strive to develop the serenity to accept the things you cannot change, the
courage to change the things you can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

-A saying originally coined by a Taoist monk, popularised by Reinhold Niebuhr,
adopted by Alcoholics Anonymous, and paraphrased by Gunars Neiders.

"What disturbs people's minds are not events but their judgements on events."
-Epictetus 500 B.C.

"The road is always better than the inn."

Here are some stress-avoiding tips from the National Mental Health Association (US):
_ Set realistic goals. Keep expectations simple for yourself -- and for others.
_ Make a budget and stick to it. Financial worries add more stress. Don't try to keep up with everyone else. Spend what you can afford. Seek out free
activities.
_ Try not to overeat or drink excessively to escape stressful feelings. Eat healthy foods and get plenty of exercise.
_ When travelling, allow extra time.
_ Remember that the holidays are more than one day; they are part of a whole season. Pace yourself. Spread enjoyable activities throughout the entire season.
_ Respect and validate others' thoughts and feelings.
_ Try to stay in the present. Look forward to the future. Life is full of changes. Consider what is important in your life and good about these times.
_ Organise your time. Make a list and prioritise the important activities. Be
realistic about what you can and cannot do.
_ Remember the holiday season does not banish reasons for feeling sad or
lonely. There is room for these feelings to be present.
_ Leave yesteryear in the past and look toward the future. Life brings changes. Each year is different and can be enjoyed in its own way. Don't set yourself up in comparing today with the good old days.
_ Spend time with supportive and caring people.
_ Save time for yourself. Recharge your batteries. Let others share some of the responsibilities.
